This period of social distancing and isolation has been transformative in many ways. Exploring our relationship with self and others has been challenging as we retreated from daily in-person interaction and found ourselves gazing into the mirror of Zoom and FaceTime. We faced expressions of fear and longing. Connection has regained a precious and irreplaceable value. This exhibition of portraits and self-portraits will gather our visual exploration of relationship, connection, self-knowledge, and belonging.

SlowExposures:
The award-winning SlowExposures Photography Festival was founded in 2003 to call attention to the accelerating loss of historic buildings and landscapes in Pike County, Georgia due to metro Atlanta growth. During the third weekend of September, visitors from across the U.S. are invited to slow down, visit over a dozen juried exhibitions presented in historic buildings, and take part in the dialogue, the discovery, and the future of the rural South.
Due to last year’s cancellation, the 18th annual exhibition will be “2020 in 2021” and feature the 65 photographers who were selected by jurors Paula Tognarelli of the Griffin Museum and Alan Rothschild, founder of the Do Good Fund’s collection of landmark photography of the South. Other events during the weekend will include the “PopuUp Tour” of 7 individual and group shows, a fireside chat with Andrew Feiler on his Rosenwald School project, the Sunday Juror Talk and a special Photo Book Roundtable. Visit www.slowexposures.org for more information and schedules.
